Ann Romney: Why Women Should be paid equal to men? Essay
Ann Romney was asked during her speech at a Moms for Mitt meeting, ââ¬Å"Why should women get equal pay?â⬠The ladies of the meeting wanted her opinion on equal pay for employees based on gender. She took no time to answer the question with a response that would shock the audience into silence to hear the following: ââ¬Å"Why should women be paid equal to men? Men have been in the working world a lot longer and deserve to be paid at a higher rate. Heck, Iââ¬â¢m a working mom and Iââ¬â¢m not paid a dime. I depend on my husband to provide for me and my family, as should most womenâ⬠¦ and if a woman does work, she should be happy just to be out there in the working world and quit complaining that sheââ¬â¢s not making as much as her male counterparts. I mean really, all this wanting to be equal nonsense is going to be detrimental to the future of women everywhere. Whoââ¬â¢s going to want to hire a woman, or for that matter, even marry a woman who thinks she is the same, if not better than a man at any job. Itââ¬â¢s almost laughable. Cââ¬â¢mon now ladies, are you with me on this?â⬠When Mrs. Romney finished speaking, there was an awkward silence in the room with scattered applause that seemed a bit forced because of the audienceââ¬â¢s support for her husband. Seemingly, Ann Romney was embarrassed and was escorted to a vehicle that took her to her husband. I view Annââ¬â¢s perspective as a pre- meditated woman who believes women arenââ¬â¢t the backbone of this country just as much as men. But all women have the right to the same and equal opportunities as men. I wonder if her speech affected her husbandââ¬â¢s presidential campaign.
